"Wenn abends die Nebel, sich mit dem schweren weißen Qualm meines Holzfeuers mischend, aus dem Grunde stiegen und ich bei offener Tür im ersten Dämmer zwischen der frischen Herbstluft und der Wärme des Feuers hockte, schien mir ein friedliches Getränk dazu passend: Rotwein mit Eierkognak zur Hälfte in einem bauchigen Glas. Dazu las ich ein Buch und führte meine Aufzeichnungen fort."
